iDeals and the rest of the Henshall Centre web site, has been put together using Freeway. And not by an expert, but by a (then) 57-year-old grandfather (me) who had only picked up a demo version for the first time about six months earlier. Obviously, it is an easy program to use. Freeway is like desk top publishing for the web. You don't need any knowledge of HTML or, indeed, any web technology at all. And it costs well under £200. (£169 last time I looked.) How does it work? Well, like DTP, you start out with a blank page (or with one of the pre-designed templates that come with the software). Then, like DTP, you start to add text or graphics boxes. And you wiggle them about on the page using their x and y co-ordinates. Increase x and the box moves right. Increase y and it moves down. Easy. I'll leave you to ponder how to move the boxes left or up. And you can drag them. You can create a "Master page" template. I used that to work out the navigation and masthead. In fact, you can create multiple masters. I used that to make iDeals different. Then there are about ninety miilion things that it can do that I haven't even worked out yet. And the SoftPress tech support is the best I have ever come across. Real people start real email conversations for free and actually seem to be interested in solving your problem. I don't get commission. I am just a convert. Converts are always the greatest zealots. Oh yes. It does have one drawback. And this is so refreshing for a Mac user to be able to say. It only works on Mac, not Windows. | ||
